Emergence
Emergence — Limited Edition PrintArchival Giclée — Kim McCarthy
What are you ready to unlock?
Three figures emerge through gothic arched portals — copper-adorned, luminous, threshold moments caught in encaustic wax. Above, a bird rises in full flight. Below, real vintage keys lie scattered across a richly textured earth — dozens of them, waiting.
Not locked doors. Keys already present. Already yours.
This is the invitation to emerge and re-emerge — to pick up the key that belongs to this moment and discover what it opens.
Created in the post-pandemic era, Emergence explores themes of emerging, sanctuary and transition — rebirth, leaving the past behind and stepping into a new space and time. This piece was born from a collaboration with a local Stratford composer and poet — part of a grant-supported immersive art installation funded by Destination Stratford that travelled throughout the Stratford community from 2022 to 2023.
This work is deeply symbolic and intentionally open — every viewer brings their own interpretation, their own life experience, their own meaning to what they see. That is part of the gift.
